Newborn Session | Redemption Square Studio

They came through the door with the car seat in tow. They looked at each other smiling holding their dearest treasure between them. Their newborn son was perfect. His tiny pink fingers wrapped around his soft blanket, and he slept peacefully unaware of everything going on around him. Sleeping like a baby. No, sleeping like an angel was more appropriate. We all joked about how well he was sleeping now knowing that the coming night would be a different story.

How is it that newborns are always so peaceful when you can’t sleep but become the opposite when you can? It’s how cute they are that makes you forgive everything. You want to treasure every single moment, even when they are loud, because you know they will grow. You can’t protect them forever, but you can protect them now. You hold them when a thousand others things need to be done, because you know this is the only thing that should be done. It is worth it. Zero regrets.

Babies are funny, precious little beings. They have a timeline that is all their own, and you just let them run the show for a little while. When you are this cute, you can get away with anything. They do. ;)

I laughed with Amber and Zach. We almost didn’t get their maternity photos done in time. Days later and it would have been too late. We did them, and they were the stuff dreams are made of. Love, joy, and expectation. It made this newborn shoot all the more special.

Baby David couldn’t have been a better model. He slept the entire time! I’m in love with him already. I know you will be too. I blame him completely if you get baby fever. When you do, bring them to me, so I can enjoy them too. :)

Romantic Maternity Session | Redemption Square Farm, Gautier, Mississippi

The sun was slipping down across the horizon. Golden beams were spilling across the green grass. Leaves were glowing as they caught the light. Magic Hour was beginning. I grabbed Amber for some single shots alone. She fussed with her hair with one hand as the other rested on her growing belly. She was absolutely stunning. Motherhood fit her so well. I assured her that her photos would be just as beautiful as she was. Amber relaxed a little and laughed. I was serious. She was captivating in her natural beauty, and the sun was wrapping her in angelic glory.

I only had so much time to get it right. Being a natural light photographer means every session is a game of chance. How many photos can I snap before the sun sets into the sky? How quickly can I assure my clients that I see beauty in them before our light runs out? I love the challenge and the chase of the light.

I grabbed Zach who was waiting inside and began the couple shots she had been waiting for. Let’s be honest. It’s a relief to have a partner and not to be photographed alone. I instructed them to get close and to trust me. They did. What happened next can be described as nothing less than magical. The amazing love they have for each other began to shine through until it outshined the sun that was setting behind them. It’s those moments photographers live for. When the genuine beauty of your subjects shines through so clearly, that you know every shot you take will be ones that will live on past you, it’s nothing short of amazing.

It’s in those moments that you are so grateful to be witnessing the love between two people. Photography is intimate, soul-filling, and live-giving. I am so thankful to share these with people. I pray that these moments will be a beautiful memory between them as they celebrate the beginning of their journey as new parents. What a gift they are to the world and their new baby as beautiful people who truly love and cherish each other!
